France 2015 – Brittany – Wednesday/Thursday, June 3/4 – Prep for J&P

Yesterday, Wednesday, we started to get ready for the arrival of Janice and Peter today.  Although we were provided with plenty of bedding and towels, I chose to do some laundry as I wanted to change our sheets, too.  I have no idea what’s come over me, but I’ve developed an appreciation for hanging laundry on a clothes line.  I’m actually enjoying it and finding it to be quite relaxing.  Must be some kind of latent domestic gene rising to the surface…

Because we could, on this trip Steve brought his guitar and I brought my Ukulele.  Steve has been playing more than me so yesterday afternoon we might have entertained the neighbours by spending about 3 hours on the patio playing and singing.  No complaints, so far…

My fingers were sore and deserved dinner out so we drove into Lannion to Le Borneo where Rosanne, Rudie, Joe, and Maria ate last week.  We asked for Esther.  What a character!  And she spoke French so fast I only got about ¼ of what she said.  Didn’t stop me from ordering scallop/shrimp penne and wine and enjoying every mouthful.  Steve had a pizza, which was dressed with salad – unusual but yummy and healthy!

We stopped at our beach on the way back and captured an amazing sunset (pictures were taken between 10:05 – 10:40 pm).

Today, I finished up the laundry (can only do small loads at a time, the washer takes forever, and you have to hang to dry), then we headed back to Lannion to the market.  Of course, we were too late for groceries but I bought a new fanny pack for 18e as the buckle on mine broke a few days ago, a navy striped t-shirt for 29e, and some gifts to bring home.

In the river, beside the market, there are some “steps” that are not conducive to boaters.  So the town has erected a gated pathway for kayakers and canoeists to manoeuvre through.  Steve knew what they were and explained they can be used for races, too, but I’ve never seen these before and was disappointed that there was no convenient demonstration.

Jan and Peter arrived shortly after 5 and we were able to welcome them with appropriate snacks (unlike when our first round of friends arrived and we had no groceries) – a terrine de lapin (rabbit), pate de forestiere, rillette de porc, lots of cheese, wine and cider.  A few hours later, we BBQ steak and had steak/frites with salad, dessert and more wine.  Someone has to do this, sigh…
