Vroom, Vroom – He’s back in the Saddle!

After almost 4 months of dealing with a pinched nerve in his neck that affected the use of his left arm, and also suffering through an unrelated knee injury, Steve is back on his bike and a happy boy!

We didn’t stray too far from home today – just in case – starting with a short ride to Georgetown and a stop at one of our favourite breakfast restaurants where you can still get ordinary bacon, eggs, home fries and toast for a reasonable cost, with friendly service.  It’s not pretty, but the food is good home cooking…

Once well fueled, we were off… heading west, then north, then east, then north… zigging and zagging until we were on the southern edge of Orangeville.  So far, so good, but not the time to be a hero, so we headed down into Alton for a rest stop at the Alton Mill Arts Centre, a national award-winning heritage building that’s home to a diverse group of artists’ studios, tucked away in a cozy and picturesque corner of the village.  Between the treasures on the inside, the sculptures scattered around the outside, the beauty of the building itself, and the property it sits on, there is plenty to catch your attention.

With lots at stake by pressing our luck, we figured a 100km ride was good enough to test the limbs, so took our usual route back home on the curvy bits past the Caledon ski club, through Belfountain, through Terra Cotta, and straight down Winston Churchill from there.

Interesting that it’s only the end of August and some of the trees further up have already started to change colour, despite our very hot summer.   Combine that with kids going back to school in 10 days and that makes for a bit of a depressing thought.

But today was not about depressing at all!  It was about getting back in the saddle and finding your happy place again!
