France 2015 – Brittany – Wednesday, June 17 – Treguier

Today was a red letter day as we were actually up early enough to get to the market by 10:30 (although it is only about a 30 minute drive).  The Treguier market is really nice – the best so far – and we bought peas (in their pod) for dinner and some gifts to bring home.  We were also entertained by a few different groups of beasties…

We both really liked Treguier.  We strolled up some streets to the town square where we found a patio at Le Martray to enjoy a proper lunch because we were there, and hungry, during the lunch hours, and where we were joined by another new friend.  It was a bit chilly as we were sitting in the shade, but better to be eating al fresco than hidden inside – nothing that a jacket couldn’t fix.

Following lunch, we ducked into the cathedral on the other side of the square…

… then continued our stroll through the old section of the town, including the cemetery behind the cathedral and the Mairie (town hall that used to be a convent).  What a contrast between the busyness of the market hours and the peacefulness afterwards.  The streets were virtually empty.

This was an excellent day at the market and, although we have been here so long now that we’re almost nationalized and parking on the curb has become second nature, we still think like Canadians so were thankful our car was still where we left it 5 hours later!!!

On a few of our drives, I noticed some intriguing “figures” that were quite unusual.  Turns out they are people, made from leaves, that are created and hung each spring in certain locations around the region.  I tried to capture a few…

We were back home early enough to spend a couple of hours at the beach where we walked in the water up to our knees.  The incoming tide had other plans for us, though, and after only about 5 minutes I was wet up to my thighs.  So much for staying dry.

We ate in tonight and had one final round of scallops on linguini to use up the leftover scallops.  Still tasted good.

As we have only 2 more full days here in Brittany – hard to believe a month has passed already – we got serious about our plans to return to Paris for our Monday flight home and decided to go back through Dieppe.  After a little research in my “Backroads of France” book and TripAdvisor, I made a reservation for Saturday night in Veulettes-sur-Mer, about 30km from Dieppe.  And another reservation for Sunday night at the Novotel at Charles de Gaulle in Paris.  Once you start making these arrangements, you know your vacation is coming to an end 🙁
