If you’re ever in the area, you MUST make the effort to visit Mont Saint Michel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What an architectural wonder, starting with a dream in 700AD and spanning almost every century up to, and including, now with the work that’s being done on the canal/dam to help redirect the tides for more efficient hydro use. It has been everything from a small church, to a monastery, to a fortress, to a prison, to a village, to a mecca of tourism.
Mont Saint Michel is about 2.5-3 hours from where we’re staying but so worth the drive! For 2 shutter-crazed-bugs, this turned out to be a very long day, yet so rewarding. We “released” our friends from their obligation to stay with us and spent 5.5 hours touring, being amazed, and snapping up countless photographs.
These 2 paragraphs don’t seem to be enough to pay justice to this monument but it’s all I’ve got, in words. I have lots of pictures, though 🙂 …
Rosanne, Rudie, Joe, and Maria had enough time to stop in St. Malo on their way back, then ended up eating at Le Borneo Pizzeria Brasserie in Lannion, across from market. We’ve been instructed to go back and ask for Ester – to tell her the Canadians sent us. We will do that.
We drove around closer to home and stumbled across a very tiny restaurant, part of Camping l’Epine, in Trelevern, the next village over. There we also ate well, with great service. Steve chose the prix fixe Andouille special with ice cream dessert and I chose the prix fixe bavette with seafood salad entre and crème brule dessert. We had a ring-side table with gorgeous views onto yet another bay/beach and were able to capture some early sunset pictures around 9:30pm – the fuzzier ones from behind the glass, the clearer ones from outside.
At midnight, we all fell into bed, exhausted. No one would have had it any other way.
